The Integrity and Compliance Office is pleased to bring you Policy Points, a quarterly notification bringing awareness to all universitywide policy updates. All universitywide policies are located in the policy library, providing centralization and data normalization.

Smoke and Tobacco-Free Campus - To provide a safe and healthy working and learning environment for faculty, students, staff and visitors on its campus, Virginia Commonwealth University has adopted the Smoke and Tobacco-Free Campus policy. Smoking, vaping, and the use of all tobacco products is prohibited on university property or in vehicles owned or leased by the university, except as specifically permitted in the policy.


Criminal Conviction Investigations - The purpose of this policy is to describe the criminal background review to which every VCU employee is subject. The policy updates procedures to accurately reflect Human Resources practices and procedures, to state post-hire reporting requirements, and to align with the Working at VCU: Great Place HR Policies policy.

Delegation of Signatory Authority - The revised policy incorporates many changes in delegations of signatory authority based on responsible individuals and roles. It clarifies the process for administering sub-delegations, creates a repository for presidential delegations and updates roles and responsibilities of senior leaders at the university. 

Tuition Benefits, Educational and Training Opportunities - This policy, formerly titled Educational and Training Opportunities, affirms VCU’s commitment to providing learning and development opportunities to eligible employees and encouraging employees to continue their education and enhance their growth and development through tuition benefits and other educational opportunities. The policy was revised to include the new University and Academic Professional employee group; allow one course per semester (the equivalent of three credit hours) to be taken during work time (versus non-work hours) with prior managerial approval to align and be consistent with the career development section of the Working@VCU: Great Place HR Policies; and include detailed procedures in the Tuition Benefit, Tuition Reimbursement, and Educational Leave of Absence sections of the policy.

Solicitation – This policy was retired through the governance process because it was replaced by the Reservation and Use of Space policy.


If you need to retire an obsolete university policy, VCU has requirements that must be followed. See VCU’s Creating and Maintaining Policies and Procedures policy, which requires President’s Cabinet approval to retire an Administrative policy and Cabinet and Board of Visitors approval to retire a BOV policy. An executive summary of policy retirement must accompany the policy in the approval process. Upon the policy owner providing notification of approval, the Integrity and Compliance Office will remove the policy from the Policy Library.
